“I yam
what I yam that’s all what I yam”. Can you all guess this famous
tagline quoted by the spectacular Spinach Man. Yes very correct I’m talking
about the sailor man- the Popeye!!!
Let me recall you another marvelous duo that is still remembered with awe. Guys I’m talking about the Tom and Jerry of all times. The list is incredibly long if I start penning down all. But definitely I’ll be jotting them down the page to give you all a grand flashback. The flashback that aired for all-ages, that is way incomparable of today’s pedantic gimmicks. The flashback that reflects the void between the present and the past; that which paves the variety of real fun and reel fun. And yes the flashback that showered the joy of watching together with echoing guffaws. If you really were a fan of them, I believe at least a little I’m being able to recollect you the moments; of how desperately it made you seated in your cozy couch for your favorite cartoon characters that popped up in the same fixed timings of the stupendous evenings. No matter how little or more you may be busy with other work; you always framed the time to catch the rock stars of those times. Each episode grabbed the same attention with the same thrill; paused with little ads and how satiated it made you feel at the end when every show concluded with the happy endings.

Say with the Hero’s victory or evil’s
destruction, the power of love of Popeye for his Olive, the unconditional love
of Uncle Scrooge for his family beyond his obsession for wealth, the
inexhaustible tricks and traps of Tom & Jerry, the success of Dexter’s
marvelous inventions despite the constant pinging of Dee-Dee, the indomitable
spirits of the rescue rangers, the love of Daisy for Donald , the goofy tales,
the Scooby-dooby suspense, the naughty
three little pigs with their amazing humming of "kaun darta hai bheri se”
and the profound Mickey. Whoa! The list is too long to capture all. Again how
we can forget the omnipotent superheroes that left the trail of strength and victory.
Guess who? It’s the all men dominant characters – the He-man, Captain Planet,
the superman and many more I suppose. Girls always at par since then; here I’m
talking about the feminine headstrong Power puff girls. Different shows with different
characters reigned those times with the familiarity that beholds a sea of
emotions from laughter to sobs and to laughter again.

So
the point is what’s missing today? Where’s the void? We still find the Cartoon Network
(CN) channel aired on the small screen with a variety of different shows casted
one after the other. In fact we see the newbie’s replacing the oldies in a much
faster rate of knots. And most surprisingly, the existence of the Pogo Channel -
can say a counterpart of the CN channel displaying the alien animated platoons
also being aired to a certain extent. But who are the cartoon characters the present
era’s little ones usually ponder about? Are they completely out of the picture
we got to see once or are they some aliens to our beloved characters that we
craved for. Yes , strange it seems when I see their craze for some Doraemon,
the exhilaration for Chota Bheem, the serious battle wars, some Ninjago adventures and the other
newbie’s that have already entrapped those little one’s naïve minds . They laugh;
they hop with joy; they dream as so we did and they watch with the thrill as we
used to be. But, will they ever get the savor of watching the shows that we
watched or the cartoon characters we missed today; the endless fun-loving
mischief’s of our long lost characters? I feel it’s an answer marked unanswered
yet and very soon it may be marked with the option “no” if there’s no one to
make them see n feel the way we felt then.
Yes
it’s the 21stcentury, and time flies like an arrow we all know, and
with time so follows the changes; say of a society, of minds, of thoughts, of choices,
of preferences and it goes on. Already being dragged off the maneuver mechanical
world dominated by the massive external
forces ,the upsurge usage of Smartphone’s, the wide influence of ‘ whats app’
and the all powerful social networking
fever is all that rules today’s little ones. Although I may sound contradictory
by quoting that “time takes it all, whether you want it to or
not”, that with the progress of human science and its incredible creativity
new things will evolve with time not only technologically but from all aspects that
relates to development, growth, with the urge of knowing something new and
applying something new . By this, I opine for the very fact that with such
speedy pace of development, definitely more interesting things will lure our way,
will lure us more if we surrender the more of us to them. But one should know
the pros and cons of all those before stepping into such scientific platforms. That
instead of being a haven for relaxation they does not hamper your normal life
no matter in the form of addiction or making you unknowingly obsessed for the
worse. Coming back to the long lost animated world, I would suggest the innocent
minds of today’s tender ones to explore their curious inquisitive mind with the
simplest step as their first step. The journey is way long ahead and is brighter
than it seems to be. The electronic world is definitely waiting for your grand
entry with maybe lots more adventurous and awe-inspiring activities. But why to
let go off something that is already accessible to the almost forgone fun, the
get-togetherness, the lost family fun time hours. No doubt, you all missed
those immortal vibrant cartoon characters but as said “better late than never”
you can reiterate the history seeking the help of all time available- Master
GOOGLE (if interested so). But apart from this animated world and beyond the
scientific world, it all depends on you how you explore the simple
amazing creative world around you.
Well,
for my fellow mates, to some extent I feel we are lucky enough to be a part of
both the phases “the then and the now”. Sometimes I just feel blessed to have
those long lost buddies, to be a part of that aura, no matter how significantly
but I can say; today it’s because of them, we get to see a wide grin on our
faces whenever we come across them. To these days of a digitized world, let’s cherish
those happy childhood days in the memory of our favorite once upon a time
heroic platoons. They the remedies at times of distress and at our lone times
and that alone can be our company to make us laugh aloud and definitely that doubles
our happiness when watched together. Thanks to Betty Cohen, founder of the CN
channel; for coming into the picture and allowing us today to re-capture the
long lost heroes and heroines of the animated world. The era of cartoon characters
that once ruled the days of 1990s and also with some of its airing much around
2010-11 although not screened anymore today beholds the same charm whenever
remembered. Just to end up saying that - memories do make us nostalgic, it
makes us compare the present and makes heave a sigh with the past when recalled,
but memories that only brings happiness when recalled are just to be treasured
all way along with no regrets.
kaun darr ta hain bheriye se...bheriye se... i still remember it...
ReplyDeleteAwesome days indeed!!!!
yeah... i loved those three little when they tuned to it..
DeleteI totally agree!! The cartoons of those days were educational, charming and kept not just the kids but the parents entertained! The standard of cartoon shows today don't have that depth. Even though animation AND VFX have come a long way and cartoons look more like real characters now with 3D effects and all the charm of the old Tom and Jerry cartoons probably hand drawn and animated to perfection is still etched in my memory!!!
